DAVID CARTER and Ian Simpson were the overall A fleet winners in last weekend’s RCIYC Hobie Fleet winter series with a second place in race five, and a win in race six.

B fleet winners were Jim Fullerton and Tim Simms while Laura Jane Carter and Thomas Harris won both Junior Dragoon races.

Advantage In race five, Burgis and guest crew Yvonne Winspear took advantage of the windshift close to shore on the last beat, to come from mid-fleet to win, with Carter and Simpson just behind, ahead of Grant Neale and James Winchester.

There was a battle at the front in race six, between Carter/Simpson and Darren Stower and Mike Winspear, but Carter grabbed the win, by just 15 seconds, after the lead had changed several times.

With both Hobie 16s sporting spinnakers, they had a clear advantage over the rest of the fleet, who sailed without them, over the flat water.

This weekend Jersey Hobie Fleet 386 celebrates its 20th anniversary year with a celebratory lunch at the RCIYC.
