Middleton sinks brave Warriors

CELTICS have left it very late to ensure victory in their last two games in the Landsteinar Men’s Division I basketball league – this week it was against Warriors, and they were level on points with a minute to go before Celtics stamped their authority.
Warriors 73, FJ Carter Celtics 75: Celtics started strongly, Dave Middleton and Steve Brady scoring well, but Warriors led by four points at the end of the second.
Scores were pretty much level by the end of the third, neither side playing to their potential.
Warriors had victory in sight in the fourth, then both teams had foul trouble, and it wasn’t till the dying seconds that Middleton scored the winning points.
Jersey Trust Juniors 62, Slamma Jamma 79: Slamma dominated from the off and the Juniors struggled to keep up, although they got their passing game together in the second and made their opponents work on defence.
Slamma forged ahead in the third and although Juniors’ Joe Burleigh and Carlo Ranieri produced fast breaks, they could never quite make up the deficit.
Storm 60, Sentinels 70: Storm took an early advantage, Marc Le Cornu exploiting a Sentinels’ defensive mismatch to get some early points.
But Sentinels reorganised and began to close the gap then overtake Storm, despite the latter’s best efforts.
Sentinels still lacked some execution on offence, but Storm faded at the end, despite good contributions from Lee Quémard.
Sentinels applied the screws to finish ten points to the good.
