70 mph gusts on the way

Friday 2nd December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.

DAMAGING gusts of up to 70 mph are expected to hit Jersey today as last night’s strong winds continue.

The wind brought down trees overnight, and warnings were issued as the high tide threw water and debris over the sea wall.

Firefighters were called out just after 1 am when the wind dislodged the window of a flat on Bagatelle Parade in St Saviour and the Fire Service also received calls about trees being brought down around the Island.

Tonight waves are expected to break over sea walls, causing more problems with water and debris on roads along the Island’s south coast.

High tide tonight is at 6.50 and tomorrow morning’s high tide is at 7.50.
