‘I will change,’ says new Chief Minister
Tuesday 6th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
CHIEF Minister-designate Frank Walker vowed to Members that he would be ‘a changed person’ yesterday after they backed him by 38 votes to 14 for the top job.
The Senator said that as the head of the Island’s government, economic policy would not dominate his political agenda to the exclusion of social justice and protecting the Jersey way of life.
He will go into Thursday’s elections for Ministers as the Island’s first Chief Minister-designate after yesterday’s vote, which saw him defeat Stuart Syvret.
Immediately after the historic vote, an emotional Senator Walker thanked Members for their backing.
‘I have been incredibly lucky in my life, I have had many proud moments, but I can say none more so than today,’ said the Senator.
