Victim of the tsunami

Tuesday 6th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.

THE inquest into the death of Jersey’s only Asian tsunami victim Pete Harrison was held today in London.

Liverpudlian Mr Harrison was one of 93 British victims killed by the waves that devastated the Far East, Indian Ocean islands and coastal regions of India, Sri Lanka and Africa last Boxing Day.

Their deaths are being formally recorded this week at a mass inquest in London.

The 93 are among 141 known to have died in the disaster, but only those bodies which have been repatriated are subject to inquest.

A verdict of ‘victim of the Asian tsunami’ was recorded.

Although he had lived in Jersey for more than 20 years, Mr Harrison – who was 46 when he died – was buried in Liverpool, following a funeral service and cremation in Jersey in April.

Mr Harrison’s twin brother, Tony, and brother-in-law, Steve Winrow, travelled to London to hear his cause of death formally recorded.
