THE new look Captains Challenge Pool league looks to be a big hit as Premiership teams are mixed with the Division I teams.

Some of the big guns have already met, with the clash of the week being Portuguese Club hosting former champions Coco’s Clowns.

Portuguese, stronger since signing Dave Snell and Chris Melville, are favourites for the £1,500 first prize.

They won the first session 3-2 with Snell, Melville and Tony Taborda all winning.

Despite falling behind 6-4 after session two, they hit back to destroy the Clowns in session three, with Taborda, Carlos Rodriguez, Filipe Vieira and Melville all winning.

Portuguese C are having a great run with four wins under their belt.

They walloped the Great Union B team 12-3, with Joao Silva winning all three, as did captain Tony Freitas.

Last year’s champs Hot Cookies travelled to the Union and romped home 12-3, with captain Gary Cook winning all three as did Clive De Sousa.

The big shock was last year’s Division I champions Britannia losing 8-7 against Five Oaks.

Tony Dean and Dave Thompson put the Brit level at 6-6 as they beat Steve Seviour and Danny Brennan at the start of session 3.

But wins from Lee Traynor and Gary Wright for the Oaks gave them a great victory.

The winners of two years ago Mr Bs travelled to Trinity and returned with a 9-6 win.

Capt Ady Bougourd with some superb finishes was the player of the evening as he beat Paul Bell, Dave Bonnar and John Hamon respectively.
