Parking: States ‘abusing monopoly’
Thursday 8th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
A COMPLAINT that a States body is abusing its monopoly position over parking charges is to be made to the competition regulator.
The complaint to the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority is to be made by the Chamber of Commerce over increases in parking charges to be levied by the newly renamed Transport and Technical Services department – formerly Public Services.
The price of parking scratchcards is scheduled to rise from 47p to 50p in February, with the price of car park season tickets to increase by nine per cent.
The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Kevin Keen, said that the States have a monopoly over parking charges that Chamber members believe is being abused.
