CABLE and Wireless has been given the go-ahead to launch a mobile phone network in Jersey.
The international phone giant will be investing £15m in the Island and has promised cheaper calls and handsets.
The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority also granted four 3G licences to phone operators, meaning mobile phone users could soon start using video-messaging and paying bills over the telephone.
JCRA executive director Bill Brown said it was good news for Islanders in terms of services they could get on their phones, and in terms of cost.
