Health Minister faces crisis talks

IN the first 24 hours of ministerial government, Health Minister Stuart Syvret is preparing for crisis talks to try to resolve a bitter dispute between nurses and health service management.

Meanwhile, hospital consultants have stepped into the row and are also meeting the Senator next Tuesday.

Senator Syvret will meet nursing unions and managers next Tuesday in an attempt to find a way forward.

Nursing unions say that morale among members is at all-time low as a result of changes to working practices, but managers say that the majority of the 1,300 nursing staff continue to work without complaint.
