Lawyers to end scale fee system
Friday 9th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
THE cost of buying a home could finally be coming down as lawyers agree to end years of price-fixing before being forced to do so.
The Law Society is to ditch the scale fee system which had prevented competition between firms.
Historically, property buyers have had to pay one per cent of the purchase price for conveyancing.
The changes are expected to come into force almost immediately.
The change follows a meeting between lawyers and the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority, who advised them that scale fees could breach the new Competition Law.
