Deputy criticises plans for heritage property
Saturday 10th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
PLANS to develop a heritage property at Corbière have been described by a parish deputy as being out of sympathy with the area.
Deputy Sean Power says the proposed modern extension to the former terminus of the Jersey Western Railway may be a unique approach for a unique area but he did not think it was appropriate for the location.
‘It will certainly stand out,’ he said.
Plans for Old Station House have been drawn up by Design Plus, who are agents for the owner, Vencorp Ltd.
They have applied for a very modern extension to the original building, which includes a curving metal wall, with a rust finish, to the north elevation overlooking the Railway Walk.
This wall is 5.9 metres high and 13 metres in length.
Vencorp declined to discuss their proposals or to supply an artist’s impression, even though it is a landmark building in a prominent and popular location.
