Emeraude future hangs in balance

Monday 12th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.

EMERAUDE owners Sogestran have commissioned an expert to assess the long-term viability of the St Malo sea route before making a decision on what the future holds.

Sogestran announced on Friday that all Emeraude sailings will be cancelled until the end of February next year at least and major question marks hang over the future of the troubled ferry company.

But all may not be lost.

Emeraude general manager in Jersey, Gordon Forrest, said Sogestran have given assurances that over the next few months they will study every aspect of how to make the route pay.

‘They have brought someone in to look at the route and study every possibility as to how it can be made viable.

Dependent on the outcome of the exercise they will make a decision as to what the future will be.’
