ST BRELADE remain one from bottom in Coca-Cola Combination Division I after losing to a late goal against First Tower United at La Hague Manor on Saturday.
Tower striker Bradley Russell hit the target for a 1-0 win with two minutes remaining leaving the Saints awaiting their first league victory after eight starts.
Saints caretaker manager Peter Taylor said: ‘To lose to such a late goal is very disappointing.
We are desperate for points and we were so close to getting another one.
‘We didn’t play great, we didn’t play bad; we’ll keep going and hang on in there until the end.’ Rozel Rovers should have had the three points in the bag at half-time at Le Couvent but they failed to take their chances against St Paul’s.
Leading with goals from Simon Moiani and Jerry O’Shea (penalty), Rozel were then pegged back by goals in the 44th and 50th minutes by Kamil Adamczuk and Jean-Paul Martyn.
St Paul’s had much the better of the second period but after trailing again to Scott Healey’s tap-in Adamczuk then grabbed his second to make it 3-3 with 90 seconds remaining.
The Portuguese Club and Jersey Nomads won PW Touzel Memorial Trophy preliminary round matches away to St John and St Martin/SCF respectively.
Freddie Mendes hit a hat-trick and Ricardo Perreira, Pedro Lopes and Valerio Figueira singles as Portuguese won 6-1 at St John.

Cup-holders Nomads won 3-1 at St Martin/SCF where they profited from a brace by Paul Starkey together with an own goal.

First Tower, from a game played more, went top of Division I Reserves after they came from a goal down at the break to win 6-1 at the Hockey Club against Jersey Wanderers.
Johnny Houguez fired Wanderers ahead only for Tower to recover with doubles from Wayne Shales and juniors Dean Jones and Adam Speight.
Grouville moved up a place to third after they defeated champions Jersey Scottish 3-0.
At Les Quennevais, Josh Collins scored twice and Darren Quintal once.
Jon Evans also scored twice to earn St Ouen a 2-2 draw at St Saviour after hosts St Paul’s, who had junior Brett Willoughby sent off, had led 2-0 after goals by Craig Lowe and Alberto Brio.
Grouville, who are averaging 7-1 scorelines this season, went three points clear in Division C after they won coupled with second-placed St Ouen being beaten by third-placed St Peter.
An own goal and others from Sam Baldwin (four), Alex Buesnel (four), Jason Byrne (three) and Simon Stratford took Grouville to a 13-1 success away to St Brelade.
Declan Norris replied.
St Peter returned 2-0 victors from St Ouen where the visitors notched through Roly McMichael and a home-team defender.
