UK asked to stop drug couriers from travelling

HOME Office Minister Paul Goggins will be asked to help cut Jersey’s growing prison population by acting to stop UK police forces from allowing drug couriers to travel to the Island.
And the UK Government could even be asked to help meet the costs of imprisoning offenders who are allowed to travel to the Island before being arrested at ports here.
At a meeting of British-Irish Council ministers in Dublin yesterday, at which the misuse of drugs was discussed, Jersey’s Health Minister Stuart Syvret told Mr Goggins that in some cases couriers are allowed to travel here although UK forces are passing on intelligence about the drug mules and their consignments.
