Economy: It’s looking good

THE prospects for the Island’s economy for next year are better than they have been for the last five years, according to States Economic Adviser Dougie Peedle.

In a review of the economy released today, Mr Peedle said that after several years of weak performance there was evidence suggesting that 2005 is the year that the economy turned the corner and is likely to move to economic growth next year.

And Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf has undertaken to to ensure that his department works hard to create the environment that will allow the two per cent annual economic growth targets to be achieved.

He said that he was in the process of conducting a preliminary review of both the economic growth plan and the prospects for the various sectors of the economy that is due to be completed by the third week of January.
