Hopes dim for tourism industry recovery

THE turnaround in the tourism industry predicted at the start of this year has not come to pass.
The end-of-year downturn – the eighth year in succession for the industry – was announced at Jersey Tourism’s annual marketing presentation held yesterday afternoon at the Arts Centre.
Tourism director David de Carteret said: ‘This time last year we were quite optimistic, but we have not had the growth we had hoped for.
‘All the right things were there, but the challenge was perhaps even bigger than we had anticipated.’
