Herbert heads back to South America
Friday 16th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
BECKIE HERBERT will play for England in South America next month.
The Jersey girl was named in the senior squad which will play in a four-nation tournament in Argentina.
It follows her strong displays for England Under-21s in the Junior World Cup in Chile and her continuing good form for Premier National League leaders Fyffas Leicester.
The other three sides in the tournament are Holland, Australia and Argentina, and the matches will be played in Cordoba from 18 January to 1 February.
Head coach Danny Kerry has chosen an 18-strong squad that includes five Leicester players.
He said: ‘The squad is young and they will be up against the best three teams in the world, in front of large partisan crowds.
It will be an excellent experience looking forward to the forthcoming Commonwealth Games and World Cup qualifier.
‘Selection has been tough but the challenge facing us is to remain focused on the primary goal for 2006, which is qualification for the World Cup.
The qualification for this comes through the World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Rome in late April, early May.’ Right: Beckie Herbert (No 10) celebrates an England U21 goal in Chile earlier this year
