JERSEY Scottish manager Bob Kearsey will not apply for the vacant Island manager’s job.

Kearsey was prepared to help in a caretaker r๚le, following the resignation of Dave Matthews last week, but now having had time to think about the position he has decided to remain in club football.

‘I would have been happy to have filled the gap for Jersey, but long term I’m happy with club football at Jersey Scottish,’ said Kearsey.

‘I worked alongside Dave for a short time when I was 18 months under manager Ron Harris and I’ve seen what goes on behind the scenes – it is a difficult managerial position.

‘I’m sure an amalgamation between the Jersey Football Association and the Coca-Cola Combination will assist matters, too, if it eventually happens.

‘I believe the JFA need to put a fixture plan down; that should not be left to the manager in my opinion.

The manager could then concentrate solely on getting the right results for Jersey football.

‘We do need to be competitive but I don’t think it is with the South West Counties Championship because there is no progression from it.

‘Personally I’d like to see a Jersey club side, or possibly two, playing in quality knock-out competitions in England, purely to get a better standard for the top sides to play against.

‘We have clubs who compete in English competitions now but they are the clubs that have the money! ‘We need to progress.

We’re currently going round in circles – and who is to say it’s not going to happen again as the new Island manager may leave the youngsters Dave Matthews played out and bring back some of the better players?’
