FORMER Footballer of the Year Kathryn Porter netted a hat-trick last night at Les Quennevais.

In the first of three Island trials for ladies this season, manager Kevin Miller’s JFA XI defeated former Island manager Mo Matthews’ Coca-Cola Combination XI 4-0 – Lauren Jéhan notching the other goal from the penalty spot.

Miller said: ‘There were a lot of positives; it was a worthwhile experiment looking at the fringe players and the JFA XI kept the ball better back to front to win the game.

‘For a side thrown together an hour before kick-off they kept their shape really well.

Both teams worked hard throughout, it was good to watch and played competitively and fair.

‘The final scoreline was a bit flattering, I think a two-goal margin would have been nearer the mark.

‘Kathryn and Jo Fuller pulled the Combination’s defence all over the place at times and with seven of the JFA’s 13-player squad last night not involved it last year’s Muratti squad, the strength in depth is looking promising for Jersey ladies’ football.’ Further trials will be held at Les Quennevais on 24 January 2006 and 28 February.
