Island manager’s job: St Paul’s would not stand in Hoyland’s way
Saturday 17th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
ST PAUL’S manager Tony Hoyland is a probable candidate for the Island manager’s job, recently vacated by Dave Matthews.
Hoyland confirmed yesterday, as he did last Friday, that he is interested in the position.
Hoyland said: ‘Nothing has changed from last week; I’m definitely interested in applying.
As I previously said there is a big difference between training and coaching and the Island manager’s job would allow me to concentrate solely on coaching leaving the fitness side of things to the clubs.’ ‘Games-wise Jersey has to look at every avenue open to them.
Personally I’d be happy to remain in the South West Counties Championship because it’s games and that’s what the players want.
‘We must look to other places for extra games too, France and/or the UK and see if we can come up with something that suits us.’ St Paul’s president Charlie Browne said: ‘Tony is ambitious and that is why we wanted him at St Paul’s.
If he goes for the Island manager’s position he goes with our blessing and we will not stand in his way.
Coaches and players alike all want to reach their potential.
He is a good coach and if he gets the job we will be extremely sorry to see him go.’ Hoyland, who joined St Paul’s this season from St John, is currently in the middle of qualifying for an A licence qualification.
