Electrical warning after fire in flat
Monday 19th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
A WARNING has been given not to overload electrical sockets following a fire at a basement flat off Mont Millais on Saturday evening.
The Jersey Fire and Rescue Service were alerted by neighbours to a strong smell of smoke coming from the basement flat at about 8 pm.
On arrival, two firefighters entered the flat wearing breathing apparatus and the fire was quickly found and put out.
Two appliances were called and once the fire was out the crews cleared the heavily smoke-logged flat and upstairs dwelling using the positive pressure fan.
It is believed the fire started through a combination of heavily overloaded electrical sockets and clothes being dried too close to an electric radiator.
The Jersey Fire and Rescue Service has issued a reminder about the dangers of overloading electrical sockets and the importance of having a working smoke alarm.
