JFA vice-president will stand for top post

Monday 19th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.

JERSEY Football Association senior vice-president Norman Parslow is a candidate for the soon-to-be-vacant position of president.

The 69-year-old says he will stand – but only if the clubs in Jersey are prepared to back him.

The retired builder said: ‘Yes at the moment I will stand, but I have to know that I have the support of the Island’s clubs.

I am currently a bit worried that we will be looking for another vice-president and a treasurer I and hope people will come forward.

‘I’m 99 per cent certain that a new president could within the rules be elected from someone who is currently not on council but that does not worry me.

‘I would like to see new blood on the administration side and I urge people to get involved.

In my opinion there are far too many players who take everything out of the game and put nothing back, by way of administration, when they finish playing.

‘I am prepared to stand and I will do it if I have the support of the clubs.

As there is no JFA membership as such any outsider wishing to stand can do so proving they have a club proposer and seconder.

‘I said when I was proposed as a vice-president eight years ago that I would only stand then because I was prepared to be president one day.

The situation remains unchanged.

‘I am not scared of the work involved, I’m retired and I am happy to put in the time along with those who currently work in the office.’ Parslow has football in his blood having previously been involved with the Beeches Old Boys Association since 1957 and serving 14 years as their president.

Charlie Tostevin confirmed last week that he would be relinquishing the JFA presidency at the end of this season after six years in office.
