Crawford’s cracker

Thursday 22nd December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.

ST CLEMENT and St Ouen completed the Trinity Shield quarter-final line-up with respective victories over Grouville and St Brelade last night.

Jack Crawford hit a hat-trick and Danny Huddlestone and Scott Samson singles as St Ouen brushed aside St Brelade 5-1 at St Ouen.

St Clement defeated Grouville 4-3 at Les Quennevais – Danny Craven bagging a brace and Luke Watson and Craig Russell singles for the victors with Grouville replying through Wayne Shales (two) and Peter Hall.

St Ouen’s parish team turned in their best performance for many years in defeating St Brelade.

Winning manager Allan Ferey said: ‘It was a tremendous result for us and a great hat-trick from Jack Crawford.

Everyone time he scored his next goal was better.

Three from outside the box, two lobs and a forceful shot.

‘St Brelade had better players individually but we worked exceptionally hard as a team.

‘We had quality players but no one outstanding.

From the kick-off our midfield and the front two were very lively while the back four impressed as a unit and they never put a foot wrong all night.’ St Brelade manager Peter Taylor said: ‘St Ouen were the better team last night and good luck to them in the next round.

Unfortunately we were not at the races.’ St Brelade’s consolation was scrambled home by substitute Chris Corfield after Jean-Paul Martyn’s effort bounced back into play off the crossbar.

St Ouen: Jimmy Styles; Peter Hewlett, Tim Crowell, Chris Wyn, Mark Roberts; Roly McMichael, Andy Lerose, Andy Battrick, Scott Samson; Jack Crawford, Danny Huddlestone.

Subs used: John A’Court, Alistair Horne.

St Brelade: Michael de la Cour; James Quérée, Simon Stratford, John Perestrelo; Scott Boydens, Chris Andrews, Darren Mollet, Jean-Paul Martyn, Richard Houguez; Paul Banahan, Neil Hacquoil.

Subs used: Chris Corfield, Brent Pilnick, Jonny Houguez.

Officials: Peter Smith, Neil Giannoni, Joao P Martins.

St Clement manager Dave Melton said of his side’s 4-3 win: ‘Grouville surprised me, they were stronger than I thought and it made for a good game with both sides committed and playing some good football.

‘Because it was a first time together for many of the team we overplayed it in the first half – but after the break it was much improved.

‘Three players stood out for me – Jerry O’Shea was outstanding while Luke Watson and Stuart André were not far behind him.’ Grouville manager Andy Cadoret said: ‘Considering St Clement had seven Island players in their squad and we had none we did exceptionally well.

‘We’re a bit gutted we lost because their final two goals were sloppy to give away from our point of view.

However, it was the best a Grouville team have played in the competition for many years.

‘Wayne Shales made his début in the competition; he played well by scoring twice and setting up Peter Hall to score although Peter’s goal did take a big deflection.’ Grouville: Andy Clarke; Jason Bingham, Peter Le Cuirot, Stuart McInnes, Martyn Noel; Jonny Gough, Peter Le Maistre, Richard Stevens, Peter Hall; Wayne Shales, Paul Lyttle.

Subs used: Luke Campbell, Matthew Lyttle, Joel Hayward.
