Le Rocquier’s message to Amman
Thursday 22nd December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
THIS year the postman delivering Christmas cards from Le Rocquier School will have to travel a little further than usual – all the way to Jordan, in fact.
Students at the school have decided to support their Middle Eastern counterparts after recent terrorist attacks.
Le Rocquier is the first school in the Channel Islands to win the International School Award and they now have partner schools around the world.
Children at school in Amman will soon be receiving Christmas cards and copies of the Jersey Evening Post with a recent supplement featuring photographs of the Island submitted by readers.
International co-ordinator Gilles Collong said that the students at Le Rocquier were shocked to hear about the bombings in the same city as their pen-pals’ school and they wanted to send cards to show their support.
Headmaster Richard Rolfe said that the Jordanian children have also been keen to hear about the cultures and traditions of Jersey and that sending photographs was a great way for them to see more of our Island.
