Animals Shelter finances in focus
Friday 23rd December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
THE committee that runs the Animals Shelter is likely to authorise the release of copies of a report into its management – the results of which were outlined to members last night at an emergency meeting.
About 70 people turned up last night to hear former financial regulator Roger Bignell give his verdict on the way the finances of the St Saviour’s Road shelter have been run.
According to the president of the committee of the Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA), Jonathan Morley-Kirk, none of the allegations that had prompted the Bignell review were substantiated in any material way.
He said Mr Bignell reported that he had been given unrestricted access to look at anything.
Mr Morley-Kirk said Mr Bignell made a number of recommendations for improving accounting procedures and the committee was happy to follow through those recommendations.
One of those recommendations is the appointment of a commercial manager to oversee commercial activity.
But he also said that the Animals Shelter accounts had been audited every year and been given a clean bill of health.
