Vandals damage Good Companions’ minibus

VANDALS have made it a costly Christmas for the Eastern Good Companions Club this year by throwing a brick through the window of their minibus overnight on Thursday.
The charity, who have been caring for elderly people in the Island for more than three decades, will not only have to replace the window on their bus, but will also have to pay for numerous taxis next Tuesday when around 20 of their members are expecting to go to day care.
Elaine Griffin, manager of the Eastern Good Companions club, said she was disappointed that anyone would want to attack a charity that work so hard for the elderly and vulnerable in the Island.
‘You struggle to make ends meet and then something like this happens,’ she said.
‘We will have to use taxis to get our members to day care, which will cost us again.’ She says that the window, which is specially reinforced to ensure the safety of the elderly passengers, could take more than three weeks to be shipped from the UK.
But next Thursday the club needed the bus to transport more than 40 elderly people for an activity day – and taxis for that many people could cost the club dearly.
