Holders stride into semi-final

Wednesday 28th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.

HOLDERS St Saviour will entertain St Lawrence and St Martin host St Clement in the Trinity Shield semi-finals on Monday 2 January.

The annual inter-parish competition continued yesterday with St Saviour the afternoon’s leading scorers winning 9-1 against St John at Clos des Pauvres.

St Saviour, who took just a minute to score, were five up after 28 minutes and despite their dominance they were unable to add to their tally in the closing 16 minutes of the match.

Craig Leitch and Darren Quintal hit hat-tricks, Lucas Parker notched a brace with Luc Le Mière adding a single.

St John’s consolation was fired home by Jamie Smith.

Ross Goodchild hit the target four times as St Lawrence defeated St Mary 8-2 at St Lawrence.

Phil Helleur, Ross Crick, Matt Godel and Jonathon Ray also notched for the hosts with St Mary on the mark through Mark Ellis and Matt Godel.

Junior Island striker Craig Russell (two) and senior Island players Danny Craven and Stuart André all registered goals in St Clement’s 4-1 home success against St Ouen.

Jack Crawford replied.

The closest game of the afternoon was at St Martin where the hosts edged home 2-1 against St Peter.

Substitute Tom Wherry fired St Martin ahead, in the 25th minute, with an inswinging cross from the left which eluded everyone and drifted past goalkeeper Paul Machon and into a far corner.

Youthful St Martin went further ahead following a Richard Russell goal in the 41st minute to give his side a two-goal advantage at the interval.

Chris Maguire nodded in for St Peter in the 55th minute but resolute defending ensured St Martin another home match on Monday against St Clement.

Both semi-finals kick-off at 1.30 pm.
