£4 million drugs haul for Customs and police this year

ILLEGAL drugs worth £4 million were seized by Customs and States police officers this year.

Both agencies work very closely together and believe that without being complacent, they have made significant inroads into disrupting drugs trafficking in the Island.

Customs report having made their own seizures totalling £2.8 million including just over £2.2 million-worth of the Class B drugs cannabis and amphetamines, and £600,000 worth of Class A drugs, mainly heroin.

That figure includes an operation during the year in which Jersey Customs officers led an operation with French police leading to a seizure of £1.9 million worth of cannabis in St Malo.

Added to that, were other successes in which they worked together with the States Police.
