Police probe spoof e-mail
Thursday 29th December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
A SPOOF e-mail sent to more than 1,000 partygoers saying that the Havana Club had cancelled its New Year bash is being investigated by the police.
Fraudsters managed to ‘cloak’ the e-mail and make out that it had been sent by Jersey Live organisers Positiv, who are staging the event.
Company director Warren Holt said: ‘If people can do this, then they could send child pornography or anything and make out that it is from us.
‘That’s why we went straight to the police.
Their technology expert is away at the moment.
But he’ll be back straight after New Year.
Whoever has done this will be tracked.’ Mr Holt was quick to quash any suggestions that his company had sent the e-mail to drum up extra publicity.
‘It’s a matter for the police now.
There is no way we would ever do anything like that.
In any case, this event needs no drumming up.
It’s the fastest-selling New Year gig we’ve ever organised.
There are only a handful of tickets left.
