A & E doctor: Take care on the ice

Saturday 31st December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.

ISLANDERS are being warned to take extra care when ice-skating at the waterfront over the New Year holiday.

Accident and emergency consultant Dr Carl Clinton said that quite a few people had been treated for injuries sustained as a result of ice-skating, but he did not want the issue blown out of proportion.

‘It’s another sporting activity that people get injured doing, just like kicking a football around on a Saturday.

I would ask people to be careful because we would rather not be seeing them during the holidays,’ he said.

One of those who has been injured as a result of skating at the Palais de Glace is veteran runner Ellen Barr.

She dislocated her shoulder the week before Christmas as she skated back to change skates which she suspected were slightly faulty.
