Honour for world-famous Jersey artist
Saturday 31st December 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
A 19TH CENTURY world-renowned artist and Jerseyman whose work can be found throughout the Island is to be honoured in the new year.
Henry Thomas Bosdet, who was born in St Helier in 1857, was a follower of the pre-Raphaelite art movement, which promoted the revival of Christian art and truth to nature.
On what would have been the artist’s 150th birthday, members of the Glass Rainbow Trust will be celebrating his life and work with a full morning of commemorative events.
Maureen Bourniquel, chairwoman of the Rainbow Trust, said: ‘Bosdet was a superb artist and was professor of life drawing at the Royal Academy for 25 years.
He is best known in Jersey as the creator of many wonderful stained-glass windows, of which there are superb examples at St Aubin-on-the-Hill, St Lawrence Church, St Martin and many others.’ The Glass Rainbow Trust, which has 70 members, is dedicated to the promotion and appreciation of Bosdet’s work.
On Saturday 7 January the 150th anniversary of his birth will be marked by a number of events, which will be attended by Peter Beesley, Master of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers.
