Honours for five Islanders

FIVE Islanders have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.

Founder and president of Save Britain’s Heritage and Save Jersey’s Heritage Marcus Binney has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and choir conductor Nicholas Cabot, artist Bob Tilling, charity and church volunteer Diana Toole and HM Forces CI Welfare and Support Officer Owen Wiscombe have been made Members of the Order of the British Empire.

Mr Binney, who was made an MBE in 1983, has been further honoured this week for his services to conservation of historic buildings.

Mr Cabot, who has been made an MBE for services to community life through choral music, is the organist and choirmaster at Holy Trinity Church and conductor for the Harmony Men and Jersey Island Singers.

Robert Tilling has been made an MBE for services to the arts.

Diana Toole was made an MBE for her voluntary service to the Cheshire Home and the Methodist Church in Jersey.

Owen Wiscombe said he was ‘shocked and honoured,’ to be made an MBE for services to the community and to personnel of the Armed Forces.
