Doctors fight on ward at Hospital

Wednesday 4th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.

TWO junior doctors had to be pulled apart by nurses on a ward for the acutely ill after a row over working hours escalated into a fight.

The doctor accused of launching the physical attack has now left the Island in disgrace and will not be re-employed.

A hospital spokesman confirmed today that an argument had flared up when one of the doctors, who were both employed as registrars on temporary contracts, asked the other to cover for him so he could get away early.

When he refused, his colleague lunged at him in Plémont ward in full hearing of patients.

Police officers were called to the General Hospital just before 4.20 pm on 16 December by the victim of the alleged assault.

Officers went to the hospital, but when they got there the doctor had decided not to make an official complaint.
