Feathers fly in the Royal Square
Wednesday 4th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
FIFTY people took part in a spontaneous pillow fight in the Royal Square on Monday evening.
The event was arranged by Stephen Salinger, who was on holiday in the Island over the Christmas period, and was watched by a crowd of about 200.
People were contacted through e-mails and text messages to encourage a ‘flash mob’ to turn up to participate.
A flash mob is the relatively new phenomenon of a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual or notable and then disperse.
Mr Salinger said that other pillow fights had been held in London, Paris, Edinburgh, Toronto and Tel Aviv, where more than 1,000 had taken part.
He said: ‘It’s a bit of fun and people enjoyed it.
It did take us nearly two hours to clear up the feathers, though.’
