Marathon challenge is up and running
Wednesday 4th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
MORE than 65 people have already responded to yesterday’s JEP article offering the chance to run the London Marathon in 2008.
Jersey Rugby Club chairman Chris Scott launched the scheme appealing for 50 would-be runners.
But he has been bombarded with e-mails – and now he says that figure may have to be extended.
He said: ‘It’s unbelievable.
The response has been overwhelming.
I expect one or two might drop out.
But if I do end up with more than 50 I’m pretty sure I can get them in.
I’ll do my best to make sure everyone who wants to run can.
‘I’ve had people writing saying it’s the best JEP article they have ever seen.
It’s early days, but the JEP’s support has been fantastic.
‘When my wife saw the mass of e-mails she joked: ‘What have you done?’ Now she’s offered to be my manager – and I think I’m going to need one.
‘It’s not too late.
Anybody who is interested should contact me.’ HSBC Investments have already agreed to sponsor this project.
Anyone who is interested, either as a runner of a helper, should e-mail chris.scott@jerseymail.co.uk
