Cargo crew questioned about sunken trawler

Saturday 7th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.

FRENCH investigators have questioned the captain and crew of a cargo ship which is suspected of ploughing into and sinking the French fishing boat Kleine Familie.

It has been reported in France that maritime police are looking into whether the offences of involuntary homicide, fleeing the scene of an accident and failing to assist persons in danger have been committed.

Five men are missing and presumed dead after the 15-metre wooden longliner went down without broadcasting a mayday call on Thursday morning.

It emerged yesterday that the men presumed dead had 11 children between them ranging in age from three to 13.
