Road to stardom
Saturday 7th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
JERSEY singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot kicked off a 19-date European tour last night as support act to platinum-selling star James Blunt.
It will be her biggest exposure in Europe yet, and some of the arenas she is due to play can hold crowds of around 10,000 people.
Blunt was the chart sensation of 2005 and his album Back to Bedlam was the biggest seller of the year.
There are parallels with Pallot’s own career, as the former soldier took a while to break into the big time – a year ago 6,000 copies of his album had been sold worldwide and in just 12 months that has risen to more than five million.
Similarly Pallot’s second album, Fires, and her live shows have been met with critical acclaim which is yet to be matched by commercial sales.
