London Marathon organiser closes applications
Tuesday 10th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
APPLICATIONS to join the Jersey team to compete in the 2008 London Marathon are now closed following an ‘amazing’ response from the Island public.
Organiser Chris Scott was planning a team of 50 with the aim of raising £100,000 for an Island charity – but by yesterday he had received an incredible 208 requests to join the training programme that begins next year.
Said Chris: ‘It’s been amazing.
I know there will be some drop-outs but still it looks like being a much bigger team than I’d expected.
‘It’s unfortunate but at the moment I just can’t take any more applications – places in the London Marathon are hard to come by.
‘Now we’re going to go through a selection process and we’ll be telling the people who’ve applied of the outcome soon.’
