Rickshaw plan hits first hurdle

RICKSHAWS could soon be a common sight on the streets of St Helier.
However, the ingenious alternative to car travel is being thwarted by a 70-year-old traffic law.
Neil Paterson, who registered his business, Jersey Rickshaw, with the Financial Services Commission in November last year, wants to operate a fleet of vehicles to ferry Islanders around the town area.
But Mr Paterson will have to wait to see if the legislation governing vehicle use can be changed to get him on the road.
