New tower plan for the waterfront

A SINGLE 197-ft high tower on the waterfront has been recommended as an alternative to the three tall towers proposed last year by Dandara.

Devon-based architect Peter Sandover says there is a case for height in the remaining developments and he is recommending a cluster of buildings ranging from four to 15 storeys with a maximum ceiling of 197 feet (60 metres) – only about 16 feet (five metres) short of the tallest tower rejected last year by Islanders.

This is comparable to the height from street level of The Cedars flats at the eastern entrance to the tunnel.

Mr Sandover’s recommendations are published today by the Planning and Environment Ministry in a waterfront tall buildings draft report.
