Parking: Keep scratchcards, say JEP readers
Monday 16th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
READERS have voted overwhelming against scrapping parking scratchcards, despite Transport Minister Guy de Faye’s claim that the public wanted a change.
Eighty per cent of those who called a JEP voteline on the subject voted against the idea of introducing barriers at public car parks.
The vote was 31 in favour and 151 against.
Deputy de Faye was unavailable for comment this morning, but last week he said: ‘I am fully confident that the public want a new system to replace scratchcards.
We have staged a number of workshops and focus groups [to gauge public opinion].’ Around 200 people were invited to represent five groups – pedestrians, car users, cyclists, commercial vehicle drivers and bus users at Highlands College last year to discuss ways of improving transport and travel.
