VOLLEYBALL:Results for the Insurance Corporation volleyball league games played last night: Ladies – Eastern 0, Insurance Corporation Jets 3 (9-25, 6-25, 20-25).
Men’s: Astros Two 3, Crills Sandkickers Two 0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-14); Pentagon Red Hot Tomatoes 3, Mitsubishi MotorMall Island Ladies 0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-10).
Mixed: Crills 2, Peter Green Builders 0 (25-8, 25-15); ABN AMRO 2, D’Oh 1 (24-26, 25-14,16-14).
CROSS COUNTRY: Jon Coote and Jo McGarry won the men’s and women’s race four in the Graeme Le Maistre cross-country series, at St Catherine’s Woods on Saturday afternoon, McGarry finishing second overall, just 21 seconds behind Coote.
Second in the men’s race was U17 runner Toby Edwards and Carol Knight (W45) was second in the women’s in 30.17.
JUNIOR CROSS COUNTRY: Race four in the Alexander Forbes series was run at St Ouen’s Manor on Saturday.
Age-group winners were: Girls: 7/8 years Lauren Lowe; 9/10 years Anna Fenton; 11/12 Carey Fenton.
Boys: 7/8 Tom Ward; 9/10 Harry Cochrane; 11/12 Elliott Dorey.
BOWLS: The final of the Trinity Bowls Club’s Frank Harris Trophy competition, for triples, was won on Saturday by Bill Hughes, Marcel Moisan and Bernard Vautier.
They beat Jenny Rimeur, Maureen Rand and Mick Baudin in a very close competition, 14-13, after Vautier won three points on the last end and ensured victory.
SHOOTING: With a score of 45 ex 50 Richard Le Brun was High Gun and winner of Class A at the Crabbé Clay Pigeon Club’s 50-bird sporting yesterday.
Clive Green, with 40 ex 50, won Class B while Paul Leonard topped Class C with a score of 30 ex 50.
GOLF: Phil McGovern, with a nett 53 off 16 handicap, won the St Clement’s GC January Monthly Medal played yesterday.
Richie Rothwell was second with 56 off a 6 handicap, and Danny Ballard was third with 58 off 15.
HOCKEY: Jersey Ladies beat E&Y Quackers 1-0 in the only JHA Investec Women’s League Division I match yesterday.
In the Development Division E&Y Drakes beat JLHC 2-0; E&Y Ducks beat Nomads II 5-1 and Crusaders Juniors beat JHC Juniors 11-1.
The men played Investec Senior and Minor Cup league matches.
In the Senior League JHC 1st XI beat Victoria College 1st XI 10-1 and the OV 1sts beat JHC 2nds XI 5-3.
In the Minor League Investec Ladies beat Hunters 6-0; Crusaders beat Victoriana 14-1; OV Victims beat Hautlieu HC 3-1; JHC Vets (3rd XI) beat OV Vets 7-1; JHC Select XI drew 2-2 with VC 2nds.
GOLF: The Demi Golf Society’s Monthly Medal, played on Saturday, was won by Jorge Moniz with a nett 57 off 10 handicap.
George de Sousa was second with 58 off 15.
PENALTY COMPETITION: In the latest round of the SG Hambros (Channel Islands) Limited penalty kick competition, on Saturday, Paul Guillaume (St Peter) came through against Alex Lane (Grouville) 5-4 with Jonathan Ward (St Peter) pipping Harrison Jukes (St Paul’s) also 5-4.
Kristin Hanby (First Tower) saw off competition from Ben McCarthy (St Ouen) 4-2; Josh Coudrais (St Peter) had a tense and thrilling duel with Oliver de la Cour (St Paul’s) with both missing their ninth penalty and Coudrais beating de la Cour at the tenth attempt.
All four winners go through to the final.
MARATHON: John Cunningham completed the Mumbai marathon – the third of four marathons in the Standard Chartered Greatest Race on Earth series which are being run by four Jersey runners – yesterday, in a time of 3 hrs 26 min.
SCB employee Paul Martin took part in the half marathon and completed the distance in 2 hr 16 min.
DUATHLON: Tim Rogers, who will be competing in the Commonwealth Games in March, finished first in the men’s race in the first of the Pedal Power Duathlon series at La Pulente yesterday in a time of 37 min 04 sec.
Nick Le Cocq was second in 37.50 and Simon Fenton third in 39.19.
In the women’s race Sarah Corcoran crossed the line in 44.10, closely followed by Judy Paul, 44.43 and Beccy Roberts in 46.16.
