CENTURIONS won last night’s basement battle in the NatWest Indoor Cricket League to open the relegation trapdoor for United Banks wider still.
Banks are still pointless after five games and were struggling to cope at Fort Regent last night with Centurions’ Danny Bertram smashing the first century of the season – a tremendous unbeaten 113.
Bertram smashed seven 6s and was given support by father Charlie, who added 33.
Banks responded well to Centurions’ total of 177, with Nick Symonds 47 not out and Jamie MacIntosh also unbeaten on 46 for a 135 for 3 total.
Bertram junior, twice JEP Young Cricketer of the Year, said: ‘I felt in good nick last night; I’ve been training most nights in the gym and it appears to be paying off.
Last season I didn’t think I was fit enough – I want to improve my running between the wickets.
‘There were a lot of runs around last night because both sides fielded a man short.
It’s only the second time in a year my dad has played and I eventually ended up running him out!’ Two sides vying for a spot in Division I next season both recorded Division II wins.
Jersey Juniors I had by far the easiest night, collecting the points to remain second after Phoenix Knights scratched.
League leaders JCA Seniors kept their 100 per cent record with a two-wicket win over Springfield.
Springfield batted first and were all out for 104, with Paul Robson hitting 48.
There were four run outs in the innings, with Peter Glennon taking two wickets.
Mark Saralis hit an unbeaten 52, supported by Derek de la Haye’s 20, to guide the Seniors to 107 for 4.
Richard Parker claimed two wickets for Springfield.
In the remaining Division II contest Walkovers beat Barclays by four wickets.
Barclays were 74 for five, with Walkovers’ Andy Bouchard claiming a hat-trick.
Nick Richardson was unbeaten on 28 as Walkovers claimed the points with 75 for two.
