High-rise protest from heritage group

SAVE Jersey’s Heritage say the author of a report recommending tall buildings on the waterfront has played into the hands of the developers.

In response to architect Peter Sandover’s suggestions for buildings of four, six, eight, nine, ten, 11 and 15 storeys, the heritage organisation is stepping up its opposition to high-rise developments.

Group chairman Advocate Christopher Scholefield said the report was a disappointment but not a surprise.

‘Save urges opponents of high-rise developments to renew their efforts, which successfully saw off last summer’s plans from David Crossland and Dandara, and let the Environment Minister know that tower blocks are not wanted on the waterfront – or anywhere else in Jersey for that matter,’ he said.
