Soldier gets Iraq medal for rescue of SAS men

A JERSEY-born soldier has been presented with the Iraq medal by Prince Charles for his part in saving the lives of two SAS men held by insurgents in Basra last year.

Private Rhys Evans (21), who now lives in Pontypool, is a member of the Royal Regiment for Wales which organised a daring but successful raid to set free the SAS men, an operation which drew the following comment from Prince Charles: ‘Your battalion was involved in the rescue of two special services men in Basra, which was a remarkable operation true to the very best traditions of the battalion.’
