Tigers’ young swimmers set long distance pace
Tuesday 17th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
AIB TIGERS dominated the Jersey legs of the CI swimming championships at the weekend.
Swimmers from the two Island clubs competed in the 800m girls and 1500m boys age group events at Les Quennevais with their Guernsey counterparts doing the same on their home island.
The overall results, based on their times, will be collated before the Sarnians arrive in Jersey for the rest of the programme next weekend.
Emma Glendenning, in the 12-year age group, was the only one to produce a national qualifying time as she clocked an impressive 9 min 40.95 sec.
In the senior girls event three swimmers broke the 9 min 30 sec barrier with Tigers’ defending champion Ashley Cope heading her team mate Jane Smith and Jersey Swimming Club’s Katie Speller.
Tigers’ 11-year-old girls were also impressive with two sub 11-minute times for the 32 lengths.
Simon Le Couilliard led the way in the 1500m with a time of 16-37.10 while Justin Jégou was second in 17.00.63 – and was the only unlapped swimmer.
