JERSEY’S Legal Information Board website has given it a head start over other offshore jurisdictions, say Guernsey lawyers.
The chairman of the Guernsey Bar Council, Advocate Nick Tostevin, told the Guernsey Press this week: ‘We need to have a website of no less quality than that of the Jersey Legal Information Board, and until we do we shall remain at a considerable disadvantage to our offshore competitors.
Advocate Tostevin’s comments follow a letter to the Guernsey newspaper from Jersey Advocate Tim Hanson, complaining that it was ‘extremely difficult’ to access judgments by the Guernsey courts.
The Bailiff”s office in Guernsey is in the process of developing an electronic law reporting system, but until this is completed copies of the full text of judgements, or an abridged version, can be obtained from the Greffier on request, by post or e-mail.

erseylegalinfo.
e, which has recently been updated, allows access to a wide range of information including copies of previous and current judgments.
