The road to Rhodes
Friday 20th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
LE MASURIER will continue to sponsor Jersey’s Island Games team.
They have agreed to back the side for the next Games in Rhodes in 2007 following their support for the Shetland Games team last year.
Jersey is planning to take its biggest team ever to Rhodes, probably around 250 competitors.
The likely cost will be around £200,000 – which will partly be met by sponsors with more cash from the Education Sport and Culture Department plus fund-raising by the competitors.
Said Island Games Association of Jersey chairman Bob McGinnigle: ‘We expect to take our biggest team ever to Rhodes and we’ll have to work hard to raise the funds so it’s a real boost for Le Masurier to give us a headstart.’ The fund-raising began on Friday morning with the first in a series of Big Breakfasts at the Pomme D’Or Hotel.
