Aid agencies to join forces for Pakistan?
Saturday 21st January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
TWO organisations whose goal is to aid communities overseas following disaster and crisis could pull together to work on Pakistani earthquake relief efforts.
On Thursday night Jersey Side by Side chairman Mike Wavell said he would be looking into forming a partnership with the Register of Engineers for Disaster Relief and the International Health Exchange (RedR-IHE) after Mike Elliott, a listed RedR engineer, visited the Island to raise awareness of their work.
Mr Wavell said: ‘This is certainly an avenue we want to explore as we do very much intend to step our initiatives in the next few days.
We are very conscious that immediate aid needs to be sent out to Pakistan and the work of RedR is very convincing.
The structure that they use is certainly very impressive and that, coupled with the engineering work that they do, means we are very keen to get that link.’
