Minister in rallying call for tourism’s big revival

JERSEY’S tourism industry needs to be revitalised, and sorting it out is one of the Island’s big economic challenges, according to the Economic Development Minister.
Jersey needs to develop its off-season business and try to attract younger professional couples, Senator Philip Ozouf told States Members this week.
He said that a new policy for attracting visitors to Jersey was going to be drawn up and that those in the industry were aware of the need to change.
In answer to a question from St Clement Deputy Gerard Baudains, Senator Ozouf said that he had already had a number of meetings with tourism industry representatives regarding the revitalisation of the tourist economy as ‘one of the big challenges within the portfolio’.
By late spring Senator Ozouf said that the Island should have in place a strategy which would use varying landing charges during low seasons in an attempt to increase visitor numbers.
He added that new, high-quality, experiences were needed to attract more people to the Island.
